First of all, if you didn't know it, blackheads are small bumps on the face, which form inside the pores and which get a black head because of the excess sebum which clogs the pore. They are also called comedones and it seems that they are more frequent in women then in men, affecting mostly persons with greasy skin. Getting rid of them is not that hard, provided that you follow several hygiene rules and that you take good care of your face in order to prevent them from forming again.
Blackhead Removal Methods
One of the methods many people use to get rid of blackheads and pimples is to squeeze them. This can give great results, because it helps eliminating the hardened oil accumulation from inside the pore. Please take care of the following cautionary measures, otherwise you could do more harm than good and end up with ugly acne scars that are very difficult to heal:
- Wash your hands with running water and soap very well before attempting to squeeze your blackheads.
- Do not touch your skin directly with your fingertips; use some small pieces of sterile cloth for that.
- Squeeze very gently, trying not to move your fingers from the place you've positioned them, and never use your nails, because you may harm the surface layer of your skin around the blackhead.
- If the blackhead content doesn't come out from the first attempt, don't be too persuasive; let it rest for a while, then try again. Beware especially with the blackheads on the nose, as that's a very delicate area, full of pain sensors.
- Before trying to get rid of blackeads by squeezing them, steam your face with a special steamer. If you don't have one, you can use an ordinary pot, in which you'll prepare some tea or simply boiling water, then put your head and the pot under a towel and stay like that for about ten minutes.
If you want to know how to get rid of blackheads, please note that there are also other methods such as pore strips, vacuum blackhead removers or blackhead extractors. Using them very rarely is OK, but if you make a habit out of that, your face will get irritated and you may end up uglier than in the beginning. The best way to stay away from blackheads is to control your sebum and oil production by using cosmetic treatments or special acne medication recommended by your dermatologist.
Last but not least, watch your diet, eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, and most important of all, keep those hands off your face! This is how to get rid of blackheads forming again: don't touch your face with dirty, oily hands.
